Nekmese Village

Nekmese, a village in kupang district, became one of the TLM target villages since 2017 with the program: Drinking Water Projects, Productive Gardens and Training of apparatus and the community about building villages in accordance with the 2014 Village Law.

About

Nekmese is located in South Amarasi sub-district, Kupang regency. Established in 1972 with total area 92,5. Nekmese is directly adjacent to Buraen village in the south, Tesbatan village in the north, Apren village in the east and Kotabes village in the west. The distance from Oesao, Kupang regency is 25 km.

Total population of Nekmese is 2.338 people (male: 1.163 & female 1.175) consits of 590 family heads that parted into 5 sub-villages; 10 neighborhood and 20 hamlets. The current village head of Nekmese is Krisma J.Baok, the eighth village head since its establishment.

The name of Nekmese is originally from Timor language “Neka” means heart/ and “mese” means “one”, so Nekmese means “one heart” with philosophy; “a village that was established from 4 village headmen, they are; Tuamese, Korooto, Timu Foasa and Naet that later allied to form one independent village.” 99% of villagers are dry land and horticultural farmers who produce corn, paddy and vegetables and other local food to consume or sell in local market in Kupang.

Productive Garden Water Project Procurement

The location of productive garden is 400m lower that water source. So, to irrigate water from source to the garden, TLM foundation and productive garden members use gravitate system. TLM provides pipe (HDPE) and several water tanks in garden area. This system will save operational fee.

Materials and tools provided by TLM are ;

  1. Pipes
  2. Pipe accessories
  3. Tandon Fiber
  4. Water tanks material.

All the process if the water project involved local community. (22 members of productive garden were involved). This project can fulfill 0,7 acre productive garden water need. Aside from that, TLM also help in irrigating water from source to people around it to fulfill drinking water need. To make it more effective, TLM also procure hydroelectricity, electricity meter, electricity substation around the spring. This project is really helpful for Nekmese people.

Productive Garden

TLM Foundation invited Nekmese people to transform 0,7 acre of unproductive land into a productive garden to become the source of their additional income at the same time a sample garden for community of Nekmese.

By collaborating with Village Government, Nekmese Productive Garden is made as “Garden of Eden” according to program of Kupang Regent. The garden has 11 members, consists of 11 family heads (22 people

This productive garden began to be processed in 2016 by planting onion, garlic, green beans, yardlong bean cos lettuce, water spinach, chili, eggplant, cabbage and broccoli. Aside from that, they also plant green bell pepper as a new plant to grow. All plants All the plant are planted organically making them safe to consume and good to sell.

Pelatihan aparat dan masyarakat tentang membangun desa sesuai dengan UU Desa No 6 Tahun 2014.

On 2015, Government declared a policy to establish nation from village and it is followed up by the published of Village Law Number 6 Year 2014.

Villages are given autonomy to manage the establishment from planning to developing. Every year, Government provide village fund from APBN (Regional Revenues and Expenditures Budget). The management of the budget is the responsibility of village officials and village community. TLM Foundation takes part to improve the capacity of the officials and the community to implement village establishment. The program is “Officials and Community Training about Village Establishment on the implementation of Village Law Number 6 Year 2014”.
