Education in NTT is still an expensive investment, making it difficult for poor people to pay their children's education for a higher level and leads to high percentage of school dropouts.
Ddifficulties are faced by the poor in paying their children's education as they begin their education or ascend to the next class, as parents usually require a lot of money. For example: in East Nusa Tenggara when parents want to send their children to school, they need to spend at least Rp. 5.000.000 twice a year.
Based on this condition, TLM established the Educational Loan Program for incapable parents who wish to send their children to school with a relatively small interest. This loan is only to pay their children’s tuition fees, to purchase stationeries, and to pay study practices, etc. related to children's education.
TLM expects this program to create an opportunity for underprivileged children to continue their education. Therefore, improving the quality of human resources, encourage change and improve society’s standard of living in general.
The Education Loan Program is now only implemented in Kupang city and Kupang districts. Education is one of the important elements in building good quality human resources. However in reality, there are still many poor people who have difficulties to meet the education expenses of their children. To resolve this situation, TLMF has run an education loan program since 2014. This education loan is provided with low interest rates and monthly instalment with loan period that varies from 1 - 3 years making it easy for the customers.
The goal of this program is to serve the children of KSP customers and the community who live in the area where service program is implemented. The program is aimed to fund the education from elementary level to college level in order to support families with their children’s educational needs.
By 2016, TLM has provided educational loans to 224 parents of students with a total loan amount of Rp 344,000,000.
